Summary:
INARI's development used Agile methodology to break the process up into small, manageable chunks and respond to both player feedback and development challenges.
The team referenced similar games such as Hollow Knight, Dust: An Elysian Tail, and Okami to study what techniques these games applied and how they worked.
Development Process:
- Week-long sprints with standups and tasks for sprints chosen every Friday
- Communication facilitated over Microsoft Teams with members sharing media artifacts of their progress
- Each member's weekly contribution is reviewed by the team and feedback is given if improvement is necessary
- Monthly releases that are playtested by the public, each release aims to add significant value to the game's experience
- Kanban board used to keep track of completed tasks, tasks in progress, backlogged tasks, and upcoming tasks
